HBHAS Emancipation Art Exhibitions
The Annual Emancipation Art Exhibition is a collaboration between the Halton Black History Awareness Society (HBHAS) and the Helson Gallery located in Halton Hills. This juried exhibition honours Emancipation Day, commemorated on August 1st across Canada, and explores the evolving meanings of freedom, cultural identity, and creative expression.
The theme “Celebrating Freedom” has guided the exhibition from the beginning. It is more than a title, it's a question that renews itself each year: What does freedom mean to us now? Each exhibition invites reflection on that question through painting, photography, sculpture, and mixed media. Together, these works tell stories of struggle, renewal, joy, and so much more. They remind us that emancipation is not a single moment in time but an ongoing journey. Have a look through the years and if you have any questions connect with me.
